Israel contacts CIA to spy on Morsi

Israeli news reports have revealed that Israel's intelligence agency Mossad, in a bid to infiltrate Egyptian politics, is trying out new tactics to gauge the character of new Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi's office. Mossad has reportedly begun communicating with foreign intelligence agencies to try and "decipher Morsi’s character". Since the announcement of the former Muslim Brotherhood leader's electoral win, Egyptians are hopeful the Islamist will stick to his election promises to form an all-inclusive government. Israel has regarded the rise of Islamists in neighbouring Egypt with rising concern, and believes the peace treaty between the two countries is at threat under Morsi's rule. Israeli intelligence has reportedly taken advantage of the relationship German intelligence chief Heinz Frum shares with  Hamas (the Palestinian wing of the Muslim Brotherhood movement) to investigate Morsi. Frum previously mediated between Hamas and Tel Aviv to complete a deal to release the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Israeli press reports also said that Mossad contacted US spy agency the CIA to supply it with  reports about Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Egypt and their political orientations, particularly reports on Morsi. The CIA has allegedly also been asked to provide equipment that will allow Mossad to spy on the presidential palace.
