On Sunday, an attack by unknown assailants on Egyptian border guards at the Egypt-Gaza border left 16 guards dead and seven injured. President Mohamed Morsi has declared a three-day period of national mourning for those killed during Sunday's attack, confirmed presidential spokesman Yasser Ali on Monday. On Monday, President Mohamed Morsi and Minister of Defence Hussein Tantawi, accompanied by other top officials, travelled to North Sinai, where they met with the governor of North Sinai and discussed tightening security measures in the turmoil-hit region.
