Former Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa has stressed the importance of securing Gaza tunnels after it was found to be a threat to the security of Egypt's volatile Sinai peninsula, and a possible mean of spreading militancy in the region. Although he was aware that the opening of the Rafah crossing was aiding Palestinians in Gaza to cross as well as exchange trade, Moussa felt it had been exploited. “The Egyptian policy should take into account the humanitarian needs of the people of Gaza, and the political and security requirements of Egypt, which will not be difficult,” he added. Moussa also demanded the government to take clear and quick procedures to treat the phenomenon of sinking ships. He said: “We must not repeat previous neglect policies; the ships are obviously more crowded than their cargo and this clearly is not under the international censorship.”
