Tunisia's Marzouki to meet Mohammed Morsi Friday

Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki is scheduled to meet Egypt’s recently elected President Mohammed Morsi on Friday, marking the first meeting of two “Arab Spring” presidents. It will also be Marzouki’s first visit to Egypt since the revolution, and Morsi’s first visit by a foreign head-of-state. During the one-day event, Marzouki will participate in talks concerning Tunisian-Egyptian relations and political developments in the region. The press attaché of the Tunisian Office of the Presidency told Tunisia Live: “This is Marzouki’s first visit to Egypt, so he will surely congratulate Morsi for being elected by the people. There will be also comprehensive bilateral talks between the two presidents to discuss potential cooperation.” He also said that Marzouki and Morsi are scheduled to hold a joint press conference, after which Marzouki will meet with various Egyptian social and political figures who contributed to the revolution. On Friday evening, Marzouki will give a lecture on the “Arab Spring” to Egyptian scholars and politicians. Following his visit to Egypt, on Saturday President Marzouki will travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to participate in the 19th African Union (AU) Summit. The most significant item on the agenda for the summit is the  election of the Commissioner General of the African Union.
