British golfer Lee Westwood, ranked No. 3 in the world, said Wednesday he is rejoining the PGA Tour next year. The move commits Westwood to playing in at least 15 tour events in the United States in 2012 and would also make him eligible to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. He said he would still be able to meet European Tour commitments. "It just felt right in a Ryder Cup year to commit to a full program in the United States," Westwood said. "The FedEx Cup looked pretty good on TV this year. I thought it would be great to give it a go, having never taken part." The Ryder Cup, pitting a team of European golfers against a U.S. team, is scheduled for Sept. 25-30, 2012, in Medinah, Ill. Westwood is expected to be in the field for the PGA Tour's WGC-Accenture World Match Play in February in Arizona. He has 35 wins as a professional, including two in the PGA Tour. He won the Freeport-McDermott Class in 1998 in Louisiana and the St. Jude Classic in 2010 in Tennessee. The bulk of his tournament titles -- 21 -- have come on the European Tour.
