Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Essam Fayed asserted that the ministry was keen on continuing development plans for the most needy districts with the aim of achieving sustainable development in the coastal and border areas especially in Sinai, Matrouh, Halayeb and Shalatin.
In a statement released Tuesday, Fayed said the Desert Research Center has made a great leap in the development of Halayeb and Shalatin region, noting that a second mobile solar-powered seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant in Shalatin town was completed.
Addressing a ceremony of inaugurating applied research projects on behalf of the minister, Head of the Desert Research Center Naem Moselhi said the new plant's production capacity could reach 21 cubic meters daily, adding that the Ministry was the biggest contributor to implementing projects in Halayeb and Shalatin.
Meanwhile, Head of the Agriculture Guidance Sector Sayyed Khalifa said a number of projects are currently under way by the ministry in Wadi Houdeen, Al Dif and Abu Safaa districts in the Red Sea.
