Syrian star Soulaf Fawakherji has confirmed to Arabstoday her new role will see her playing a young Damascene Jewish girl. In the new series, Fawakherji’s character (Wedad) will refuse to return to Israel with her father. Through her decision questions of identity and belonging are explored, Fawakherji revealed. “She had left Damascus in 1948 but did not decide to go back to Israel,” the star said in an exclusive interview. “Instead she went to Hong Kong and from there, America.” “But she always remembered Damascus.”
