Egyptian actress Wafaa Amer was exposed to fierce criticism from Egyptian Facebook and Twitter users, after she published a tweet calling on Egyptian people not to boycott the second round of Egypt's presidential elections, which will take place between the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi, and Hosni Mubarak's last prime minister Ahmed Shafiq. Wafaa said through her Twitter account that boycotting will favour Islamists in general and the Brotherhood in particular, which she doesn't want to happen. Facebook and Twitter users, mostly pro-Islamists, lashed out at Wafaa, saying she was not qualified to give advice to the Egyptian people, as her name was associated for a long time with sexually aggressive characters, mentioning some of her old movies as examples. Wafaa herself had expressed regret for acting in them, vowing not to repeat this experience, especially after she has been a wife and mother. Wafaa is married to Egyptian producer Mohamed Fawzi, and has a son named Omar.
