Some 4,000 migrants have been rescued from boats in the Strait of Sicily between Tunisia and Italy in the past two days, Italy's coastguard said. On Tuesday, 2,154 migrants were brought to safety, on top of the 1,850 rescued on Monday, the coastguard said, adding that a vessel from the EU border agency Frontex and a Greek cargo ship had assisted the Italian navy in rescuing all the passengers from 16 dinghies and a rowing boat. |
