Former US President Jimmy Carter on Wednesday said that recent surgery had shown he has cancer and that it has spread from his liver.
The 39th president recently underwent surgery to remove a small mass from his liver.
"That procedure revealed that I have cancer that now is in other parts of my body. I will be rearranging my schedule as necessary so I can undergo treatment," he said, in a brief statement.
