The last British resident in Guantanamo Bay was on Friday returning to London having been released after spending over 13 years at the military prison in Cuba, Britain's Foreign Office said.
A ministry spokesman confirmed reports that 46-year-old Saudi national Shaker Aamer, who was never charged or put on trial, had left Guantanamo Bay in the early hours of Friday and was due back in London later in the day.
