A major blaze broke out at a commercial and residential block in New York's East Village on Thursday following a possible explosion and building collapse, the fire department said.
At least one person in a critical condition was taken to a hospital and more than 130 fire fighters were on the scene battling to control the raging flames, a spokeswoman told AFP.
