Merkel warns 'if euro fails, Europe fails', urges 'compromise'

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned Monday that if the "euro fails, Europe fails" and called for compromise as Greece faces a crippling crisis after the breakdown of debt talks with its creditors.
"If this capability to find compromises is lost, then Europe is lost," Merkel said, addressing an event to mark 70 years since the founding of her Christian Democratic Union, adding: If the euro fails, Europe fails."
