The White House on Friday ruled out any near-term armed intervention in Venezuela, two weeks after President Donald Trump raised the specter of military action in the crisis-wracked country. "We always look at a broad range of contingencies of how this might evolve in the future," Trump's National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster told a White House briefing. "Any decision will be in conjunction with the partners of the region and military actions are not anticipated in the near future." McMaster's comments came after the White House unveiled tough new financial sanctions against Caracas, banning the trade in new bonds issued by the government and its state-run oil company PDVSA. |
