Russia is planning to step up its support for Bashar al-Assad's government in Syria, President Vladimir Putin said Monday, but has ruled out ground operations by its own troops.
"We are thinking about how to additionally help the Syrian army," he told reporters after meeting US President Barack Obama. "In terms of ground troops ... there can be no talk of Russian involvement."
