Sixteen people died in a fight between rival gangs in a maximum security prison in Guatemala, Deputy Interior Minister Elmer Sosa said Monday.
Security forces were still working to gain control of the Granja Penal Canada facility, Sosa said. The fight broke out Sunday at the prison which is home to some 3,000 detainees and located just 75 kilometers (47 miles) south of Guatemala City.
