US President Barack Obama will make a statement on Afghanistan at 1500 GMT Thursday, the White House said amid expectations he will announce plans to keep thousands of US troops in the country through 2017.
The White House said Obama will make the statement from the Roosevelt Room, joined by US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and General Joseph Dunford, the Joint Chiefs chairman.
