Writer, director, producer and actor Tyler Perry makes his first foray into family animation with the release of Tyler Perry's Madea's Tough Love on DVD and video-on-demand Jan. 20, Lionsgate announced.
Featuring the vocal talents of Perry, Cassi Davis, Rolonda Watts, Avery Kidd Waddell, William "Bootsy" Collins and Cree Summer, the film will be available on Digital HD Jan. 13.
"We are thrilled to partner with Tyler Perry on the launch of Madea's Tough Love," Anne Parducci, Lionsgate's executive vice president of marketing and family entertainment, said in a statement Tuesday. "Given the tremendous success and appeal of his beloved character Madea across screen and plays for the past 15 years, we know fans and families will love to watch and laugh with Madea in her first animated movie."
"After a hilarious run-in with the law, Madea is sentenced to community service. Determined to do good for the 'hood, Madea enlists Aunt Bam and Uncle Joe to try and save the Moms Mabley Youth Center from being shut down. With her irresistible sass and wisdom, Madea rallies the local kids to make a stand -- and proves that behind her tough exterior is a whole lot of love," a synopsis said.
