
Scarlett Johansson is moving to television.
The 29-year-old new mom is set to star and executive produce a new Sony TV series titled Custom of the Country. The show is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edith Wharton's 1913 novel of the same name and will be adapted for the small screen by British screenwriter Christopher Hampton, Deadline reports.
Johansson will play socialite Undine Spragg in the period drama that will follow her "ruthless [and] unscrupulous" rise to New York's high society. The eight-episode series is said to be "about to hit the marketplace" and is being eyed for a cable run.
The role will mark Johansson's first major television project.
