Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab is to inaugurate three new units of electricity production at Assiut power station on Monday.
The capacity of each unit is 125 megawatt.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker will attend the inauguration.
Assiut power plant comes as part of the ministry's urgent plan to face summer electricity loads which include adding 3,632 megawatt to the national power grid with an investment cost of 2.65 billion dollars, Shaker said in a statement of the ministry Monday.
The station includes eight units of electricity production that will produce 1,000 megawatts of electricity and to be finished on three phases, the first of which was finalized in a record time, he said.
The station will serve Assiut and the neighboring governorates.
The project is carried out in cooperation with General Electric and Orascom companies at an area of 85 feddans.
The gas-powered plant costs 746 million dollars.
