
Tunisian Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Nejib Derouiche paid a visit to the waste treatment center in Mesaieed accompanied by Tunisian Ambassador to Doha Salah Al Salhi.
The guest was briefed on Qatar's interest in the environment as well as a detailed explanation of the work of the center, which started to operate in October 2011 and works by converting household waste into energy and produce high-quality solid and liquid organic compost.
A documentary film was screened to explain the functioning of the center starting with receiving waste going through processing phases before reaching the engineering landfill as a final stage to receive the waste in the form of ashes.
The Tunisian official also toured the facilities of the center and was briefed on the mechanism of work there.
At the end of the visit, the guest minister hailed the Qatari experiment at the center as well as Qatar's unique experience in the Middle East in the field of managing waste treatment.
