
Minister of Energy Youcef Yousfi on Thursday put into operation a wind farm in Adrar (1543-km south of Algiers), and which has a capacity of 10 megawatts (MW).
First of its kind nationwide, the new power production plant is planted on an area of 30 hectares, in Kabertene, 72km north of the administrative centre of Adrar.
"It's the first experience (in the field), a pilot operation," Yousfi told journalists on the sidelines of the plant's inauguration ceremony.
According to him, Algerian engineers and executives in charge of running the first wind farm, to be followed by more important wind farms in the region in the future.
In addition, six solar energy projects are to be carried out in the region by the beginning of 2015, the ministry disclosed.
