Fukushima is still emitting radiation

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the operator of Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, confirmed the emitting of radiation to the sea and apologized from public. According to the statement of TEPCO, underground water references around the plant contains carcinogenic cesium-134 which is 100 times more than the references taken at the beginning of the month. The increasing of the toxic values could not be determined, said the statement. The spokesman of TEPCO also confirmed the water, which had nuclear contamination, reached to the sea, adding, "contamination will not leave an explicit impression, and the radioactive level of the sea is not increasing." Japanese fishermen said they were worried with regards to emitting of radiation. Moreover, the experts of environment warned the authorities that the radioactive substances will affect the marine animals and radioactivity will get through to people by food chain. A nuclear crisis occurred in Japan after a massive earthquake and tsunami in March 2011. The 9.0 quake and tsunami set off the nuclear problems by knocking out power to cooling systems at the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant on the northeast coast. Since then, four of the troubled plant's six reactor units have seen fires, explosions or partial meltdowns. The unfolding crises have led to power shortages in Japan, forced factories to close, sent shockwaves through global manufacturing and triggered a plunge in Japanese stock prices.
