Director General of Russia’s Atomic Energy State Corporation Sergei Kiriyenko and Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy Ernest Moniz on behalf of the two governments have signed an agreement on bilateral cooperation in the nuclear and energy research and development activities. According to Kiriyenko, the joint studies will focus on “high technologies in the nuclear sphere, nuclear waste safe use and non-energy implementation of nuclear technologies,” including those in the medical and research fields. “Signing of an agreement of the kind became possible only owing to a very high grade of mutual confidence,” the Rosatom chief said. “The agreement envisages a comprehensive scientific cooperation. Herewith, it is a very thematic documents, which includes a list of institutes, list of power units to be used for R&D interaction and list of subjects to be developed,” Kiriyenko said. In his words, taking part in the cooperation program will be the U.S. national laboratories and Russia’s federal nuclear centres.
