
Russia’s Strategic Nuclear Forces will get more than 50 new intercontinental ballistic missiles in 2015, President Vladimir Putin said on Friday as he addressed an expanded session of the Defense Ministry’s Board.
“You can imagine how powerful this force is,” he said.
Putin named a number of priority tasks of the Armed Forces for the short term. One of them was development of all the component parts of the Strategic Nuclear Forces.
“These forces are the crucial factor upholding the global equilibrium and they de facto rule out a possibility of a large-scale aggression against Russia,” he said.
Putin, who is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces under the Constitution, said the immediate plans in the sphere of defense included modernization of strategic aviation and commissioning of two missile-carrying cruisers, the Vladimir Monomach and the Alexander Nevsky, for combat duty.
