He was accompanied by Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council, Ahmed Al Shafar, CEO of Empower, Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, and Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources. Al Tayer explained that the major projects of DEWA and the Supreme Council support the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for DEWA to achieve excellence, sustainability and the best results to implement the Dubai Plan 2021 to develop a happy society that achieves the aspirations of citizens and residents.
Al Tayer highlighted the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to reduce energy demand by 30% by 2030, increase the share of renewable energy and diversify the energy mix to include 71% from natural gas, 12% from nuclear power, 12% from clean coal, and 5% from solar power. He talked about some of the key projects that DEWA is implementing and managing including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Its total capacity will reach 1,000MW when it's completed by 2030, with investments of approximately Dh 12 billion by 2030.
Al Tayer also explained to the guests the latest technologies in district cooling that are used by Empower, which helps in increasing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gases.
The two ministers reviewed the projects of Etihad ESCO, which was established by DEWA, to implement energy demand-side management. It is investing Dh 110 million to retrofit buildings at DEWA, Dubai International Financial Centre, and Jebel Ali Free Zone. They also reviewed Mai Dubai, which provides low-sodium drinking water to world-class standards.
Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA's smart initiatives, which support the Smart Dubai initiative to make Dubai one of the smartest cities in the world. The initiatives include: connecting solar energy to houses and buildings, smart applications through smart meters and grids, and constructing the electric-vehicle charging station infrastructure for Dubai.
