Visiting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro Moros on Wednesday hailed Algeria's efforts to reach "a consensus" among the oil producers for halting the price decline.
"I want to reiterate my thanks to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, for all the efforts made, all the support provided, the assistance given and encouragements he has expressed to go together in this direction," Algeria's APS news agency quoted Moros as saying after his talks with Bouteflika.
He affirmed that "President Bouteflika is very well informed about the operations we are conducting to reach a consensus position and possibly find a solution to this oil crisis." "President Bouteflika gave me his full support and confirmed once again, Algeria's position," he said while underlining having discussed with the Head of State "the support of both OPEC members and the non-OPEC members to so reach a consensus" about this matter.
"I have informed President Bouteflika that European and North-American news agencies are attacking the tour I had paid in several countries. These attacks aim at discouraging us so as not to reach consensus among all of us," he added.
"We are trying to work and undertake every necessary measure in order to recover what was lost (consequences of falling oil prices) and ensure that oil price rises again," Moros stressed, noting that" we are also in a delicate situation and substantial efforts will be made." Moreover, Venezuela president indicated that his visit to Algeria was "beneficial and positive" and his meetings with President Bouteflika, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, Speaker of the National People's Assembly (APN "will allow us to make efforts to reach a solution which, I hope, will be very good for all of us." "We will not consent to those who want to disrupt the work that has been done for many years and want to deprive us from our wealth and natural resources such as oil," he assured.
President Moros also expressed his "admiration" for President Bouteflika, recalling the "great friendship he had with former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez," according to the APS report.
