Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli on Wednesday met with Connie Hedegaard, the European Commission's Commissioner for Climate Action. The two sides exchanged views on low-carbon development, combating climate change and further cooperation between China and Europe. Zhang said China is on the way to exploring a sustainable economic development path while giving consideration to address climate change problems. China is willing to further enhance dialogue and communication with European Union member states, increase mutual understanding and make joint efforts in building a fair and reasonable international climate system, Zhang said. The EU has advanced technology and experience and China enjoys a huge market, Zhang said, adding that he hoped the two sides would complement each other with their competitiveness and highlight their cooperation in climate change. Hedegaard made positive comments on China's policies and actions in fighting climate change. She said the European side respects common but different responsibilities, noting that all countries should take positive actions to address climate change. She voiced hope to work with China to strengthen cooperation on low-carbon development.
