At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles unveiled a concept vehicle designed for extreme outdoor sports in the shape of the prototype Amarok Canyon. The concept of a high quality and genuine off-road vehicle in a striking colour with classic pickup accessory elements triggered an extremely positive reaction. It was therefore decided to offer as of early 2013 a special edition version of the Amarok based very closely on the concept vehicle: the Amarok Canyon. The concept vehicle’s key elements – including a strong colour scheme, AT wheels, lamp bar, styling bar and interior fitting details – have been successfully incorporated into the special edition model. Based on the Trendline specification, the special ‘Canyon’ model looks instantly different to the standard Amarok due to its unusual colour: the four-door body glistening in ‘Copper Orange’ paintwork, available exclusively on this special edition. Also available as an option on the roof is a lamp bar with four extra headlights. Further visual features include the darkened rear light clusters, the designer undercarriage guards in body colour, the wheelarches in contrasting black and the wording ‘Canyon’ on doors and rear hatch. The redesigned styling bar, the sill sidebars and the rear bumper in gleaming black form a conscious contrast to the vehicle body. A new roll cover – a cargo space cover in the form of a robust awning – is also coloured gleaming black and protects valuable cargo. With these attributes alone the Amarok Canyon already signals its craving for freedom and adventure. However, in terms of engine power, too, the ‘Canyon’ delivers what its appearance promises: in order to facilitate maximum off-road capability, the Amarok Canyon is available with both TDI engines, generally in combination with permanent or on-demand four-wheel drive (4MOTION) and optional differential lock on the rear axle. Designed for outdoor activities, the special edition also has redesigned 17-inch ‘Roca’ alloy wheels fitted with size 245/70 R 17 AT-tyres. If desired, 18-inch wheels with road tyres are also available. The individuality of the Amarok Canyon continues inside. Many details have been given a new accent through the use of a special colour scheme. The instrument panel’s sun visor is in contrasting matt chrome and the partially leather seats have two-tone colouring, with the seat bases in ‘Moon Rock’, while the headrests and side wings are elegantly offset in ‘Anthracite’. The decorative stitching on the seats, on the three-spoke leather steering wheel and on the leather-covered gear lever picks up the orangey-red colour of the vehicle body. In addition to being available in the new ‘Copper Orange’ colour, which is being kept exclusively for this special edition, the Amarok Canyon will also be available from early 2013 in ‘Reflex Silver’, ‘Natural Grey’ and ‘Sand Beige’. As an alternative to the styling bar and associated cargo space cover, the ‘Canyon’ will also be available with a practical hard top. From motorin news
