
Russia ranked seventh among the world's leading automobile markets with 2.81 million new cars in 2011, Russia's Autostat analytic agency said on Tuesday. Car sales in Russia for 2011 include 2.48 million passenger cars and 330,000 commercial vehicles, a 3.6 percent share of the 78 million cars sold globally in 2011. Russia, with 40 percent year-on-year sales growth, also posted with world’s fastest sales increase, the agency said in its report. China with 2011 new car sales of 18.5 million, a 23.7 percent share of the global market, was the world’s largest market for the third consecutive year. The U.S. came second with over 13 million cars sold, and Japan with 4.21 million vehicles was the world’s third largest car sales market in 2011.
