The Arab Tawhid Party denounced Monday a recent attack on journalist Afif Diab and called on authorities to apprehend those behind the assault. Diab was beaten in the Bekaa village of Chtaura by relatives of Ziad Homsi, who was released last week after serving three years in prison for collaborating with Israel. The incident took place Saturday, the same day Al-Akhbar newspaper published Diab’s “Ziad Homsi: You are a Traitor.” Colleagues of Diab protested the assault Monday. Nadim Alaaeddine, the general director of Voice of the People radio station, and Hasan Falha, the director general of the Information Ministry, were among several members of the media to participate in the demonstration, which took place near the Information Ministry in Beirut. Alaaeddine lamented that a “collaborator is released as though he were triumphant ... and Afif Diab is assaulted by the collaborators’ thugs.” He warned that anyone who attempted to harm Diab again would be punished. “Any hand that comes near you will be cut off,” he said.
