Virginia is the best state to stream your favorite Netflix show or download music on iTunes, as it has the fastest Internet speeds in the U.S.
Akamai Technologies released the latest State of The Internet report, which shows Virginia has an average of 13.7 MB per second, making it the state with the fastest Internet access. Alaska had the slowest speeds with an average of 7 Mbps, whereas the home of Silicon Valley, California, was No. 20 with an average of 10.9 Mbps.
Delaware, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Washington D.C rounded out the top five states with the fastest Internet speeds. Arkansas, Kentucky, Montana, and West Virginia joined Alaska at the bottom of the list.
"It's no surprise that the Northeast has some of the fastest speeds in the nation, while the Midwest and less populated states have generally slower speeds," Broadview Networks wrote in a blog post. "The state with the fastest speed was Virginia at 13.7 average Mbps, while the slowest belonged to Alaska at 7 average mbps."
Akamai's report also showed that speeds across the world increased 1.8 percent in the first quarter, with an average 3.9 MB per second. South Korea had lightning fast speeds of 23.6 Mbps, and the U.S. didn't make the top ten countries on the list.
