Cairo schools bracing for new academic year

Schools in Cairo are bracing for the start of a new academic year without delay, the governor has said.

All measures have been taken for the new school year to start without obstacles or problems, Galal Saeid said Tuesday.

Big effort is needed to render the educational process successful, Saeid said, adding that two million students are enrolled in Cairo schools.

He touched upon security coordination with the Cairo Police Directorate to secure schools.

Saeid urged Fatma Khedr, the director of education directorate, to quickly deliver school books to students in all schools.

He also directed municipal heads to take measures to guarantee schools and their surrounding areas remain clean.

He made it clear that 22 new schools will be operating by the start of the new academic year. The new schools have 482 classes, Saeid said, putting their total cost at about 79 million pounds.

But the governor still said that upgrading the educational process is not only about establishing new schools. Work is also underway to upgrade existing schools and supply them with advanced educational tools, he noted.

The governor also pointed to efforts to enhance skills of teachers and students alike.
