
Egyptian Interior Ministry said on Sunday that some students belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood who formed groups in five universities did not affect the course of study in those universities.
The universities which saw such gatherings right after noon, or Dhuhur, prayer are Al-Azhar, Ain Shams, Cairo, Al-Mansoura and Al-Zagazeeg, a statement by an Interior ministry said.
It added that the universities of Al-Azhar, Cairo, and Ain Shams witnessed some violent incidents when about 200 students from the Brotherhood gathered in front of one of the gates of Al-Azhar University, and damaged three gates owned by a private Security Company forcing security forces to intervene to disperse them.
It noted around 150 students at Ain Shams University's gathered inside the Faculty of Law and fired fireworks forcing the security troops to intervene to control the situation. Seven students were arrested.
The ministry added that about 220 students gathered inside the campus of the University of Cairo and destroyed two e-gates, but security forces managed to control the situation and disperse them after "a formal request by the President of the university."
