Adrienne Shelly Foundation bestows its Woman of Vision Award

 The Adrienne Shelly Foundation says it has honored actress and comedian Sarah Silverman with its Woman of Vision Award at a ceremony in New York.
The Oct. 25 event featured a screening of the 1970 dark comedy Where's Poppa starring Ruth Gordon and George Segal, after which Silverman was interviewed by her fellow comic, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart co-creator Lizz Winstead.
"Sarah Silverman is truly without peer," ASF founder and executive director Andy Ostroy, Shelly's husband, said in a statement Thursday. "She's a comedic genius, a multi-faceted artist and an important political activist. As such, we're thrilled to honor her as this year's Woman of Vision."
The non-profit organization is named after the late actress and filmmaker, and supports women filmmakers with production grants.
Best known for her films Sudden Manhattan, I'll Take You There and Waitress, Shelly was murdered in her Manhattan office by a 19-year-old burglar Nov. 1, 2006. She was 40.
