
The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) celebrated Omani Women’s Day on Tuesday. The evening had performances by international and local musicians, mainly women. The event kicked off with a performance by ROP’s women’s music band. Dressed in white and blue, the members of band enthralled the audience when they marched towards the auditorium. They played Melody from the South, The son Flin and Al Ghaff Tree. Next, was a performance by the women’s ensemble of the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra, dressed in bright green dress, red headscarf and gold head jewellery. The band has performed in Belgium, Germany and France. A stellar performance was delivered by well-known Armenian harpist Hasmik Leyloyan. She performed on compositions like Carnival of Venice, Presto and Ragtime among others. The highlight of the evening was the performance by the First Royal Group for Music and Folklore of the Diwan of the Royal Court. The group was formed with the intention of raising awareness about Omani music, folk art and documenting these art forms. Omani Women’s Day is celebrated on October 17 every year.
