The Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq Al-Hassan and Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah met United Nations Development Programme Resident Coordinator Peter Grohmann on Saturday, following a statement by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights seeking an immediate release of Mariam Al-Khawaja.
They discussed the details related to Maryam Al-Khawaja's arrest at Bahrain International Airport on August 30. Al-Khawaja had assaulted and injured a female officer and a policewoman as documented in two medical reports.
The Chief said the procedures adopted by the Bahrain International Airport police to arrest Al-Khawaja and refer her to the Public Prosecutor were routine measures taken against any person who broke the law. He clarified that arrests did not take into consideration the personality or philosophy of the arrested person and that no one was above the law.
