Cate Blanchett is clearing the rumors that came about after a quote about same-sex relationships was taken out of context during an interview with Variety.
In her newest film, Carol, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, the actress plays a married mother who has a romantic affair with a department store employee, played by Rooney Mara.
In her interview with the magazine, it was perceived that Blanchett said she has had relationships with women, "many times."
The Guardian reported that during a press conference for the film, the married actress said the quote was edited for effect.
"From memory, the conversation ran: 'Have you had relationships with women?' And I said: 'Yes, many times. Do you mean have I had sexual relationships with women? Then the answer is no.' But that obviously didn't make it," she said.
"But in 2015, the point should be: who cares? Call me old fashioned but I thought one's job as an actor was not to present one's boring, small, microscopic universe but to make a psychological connection to another character's experiences. My own life is of no interest to anyone else. Or maybe it is. But I certainly have no interest in putting my own thoughts and opinions out there," The actress continued.
Ramin Setoodeh, Variety's editor, took to Twitter to defend himself, writing that the Academy-Award winner was "accurately quoted."
