
As part of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW)’s preparations for the second National Conference on Women, set to be held in October, 2013, under the auspices of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the SCW, the Senior Advisor at the UN Women Arab States Regional Office Dr. Shirin Shukri met at the SCW’s premises today a meeting with a number of private sector sides which established Equal Opportunities Unities. During the meeting, Dr. Shirin Shukri was informed about work and duties of the equal opportunities units set up at the Ibdaa bank and the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) and their future plans, praising the work done over the past short period. Dr. Shirin Shukri obtained a Ph.D. Gender and Development, University of Bristol in 1995 and held many key positions. She has been a Regional Project Manager - Political Leadership and Economic Empowerment Project at the UNIFEM Arab States Regional Office since 2009. She was also the Programme Manager of the Arab Women Parliamentarian Project UNIFEM, Arab States Regional Office, from 2005 to 2008, Assistant Professor at the University of Jordan from 2004 to 2007, and the Project Manager of the Gender Equality Measured Though Statistics Project at UNIFEM Arab States Regional Office from 2002 to 2004.
