Egyptian Interim President Adly Mansour on Saturday highlighted the need of helping women attain their right to assume executive and parliamentary posts given the fact that they represent half of the society.
During his meeting with a group of outspoken feminists, the president commended the role played by Egyptian woman since the revolution of January 25, 2011, particularly in the elections, according to Presidential Spokesman Ehab Badawi.
The Egyptian women have been playing an active role in the political participation since the revolution after decades of social, political and economic marginalization, the president said.
He called on women to continue the struggle for their rights to reach executive and legislative posts.
On their part, the advocates for woman empowerment, foremost among who was Chairperson of the National Council of Women Ambassador Mervat Al-Tellawi, called for allocating a quota for women in the coming parliament.
The president approved the idea and promised that "the draft election law will take this suggestion into consideration," the spokesman added.
