The Southern Finland District Court detained a couple of nurses on suspicion of murdering an elderly woman after embezzling property from her, reported Finnish national broadcaster YLE on Thursday.
The court decided to detain the 54-year-old nurse and his 42-year-old wife, also a nurse, working at an elderly care home in Salo, southwestern Finland.
The man is suspected of killing an 84-year-old woman in his care, after stealing her money and belongings several times. His wife is suspected of 10 counts of embezzlement.
Preliminary police investigations show the male nurse poisoned the elderly woman, said YLE. Police believe the motive of the murder was to illegally appropriate the old woman's property, the report added.
Police are investigating if the two nurses misappropriated property from other seniors in the care home.
