Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs Mounia Meslem underlined in Rome Algeria’s commitment to fight against violence by all means so that to bring all the strategies which have been set up in this regard to a successful conclusion, said Sunday the ministry in a communiqué.
Meslem made an address in the works of the high-level conference celebrating the entry into force of “Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women,” held recently in Rome.
She also underlined Algeria’s determination “to spare no effort to promote the relevant international legal instruments.”
“Put an end to this phenomenon means preserving social cohesion and social stability,” she said.
The minister presented, in the conference which brought together the representatives of 56 countries, United Nations organizations and non-governmental organizations, “the Algerian experience in supporting women victims of violence and/or in difficulty, which is part of the implementation of the national strategy to combat violence against women, developed in 2007,” according to the communiqué.
