
Haitian businesswoman Carolyn Desert was named Miss Haiti 2014 during Saturday's pageant at the Karibe Convention Center in Port-au-Prince.
After her win, the 25-year-old vowed to use her title to support youth, women and the poor. Desert will also represent her country during the upcoming Miss World 2014, which will take place December 14 in London, as well as during a number of trips sponsored by the tourism ministry.
Desert, a part time model, opened her own restaurant in Petionville, an upscale district in Port-au-Prince, at age 24. In addition to being crowned Miss Haiti, she was also named "Most Photogenic" earlier in the event.
"I am a woman who running after her dreams," she reportedly said after her win.
Contestants Christie Desir, Nastassia Raymond and Jennifer Verdieu were named the runners-up of Saturday's pageant.
