Mom arrested for allegedly keeping baby in trunk of car

A French mother was arrested for allegedly leaving her infant daughter naked in the trunk of her car, authorities said. The 45-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after her mechanic discovered the baby in the trunk, the British newspaper The Mirror reported. The mechanic was doing work on the car when he heard the baby crying, the newspaper said. The baby, which the woman kept a secret from her husband and neighbors, was placed in emergency care. "They are people like any others and not dirty," said the suspect's neighbor. "I went to their house several times and there was never any trace of a baby. We never noticed that she was pregnant." The baby is believed 12 months to 23 months old. Police later arrested the mother's husband for allegedly driving his scooter while intoxicated.
