A New Jersey woman was charged with attempting to kill her two children by setting fire to the car in which they were riding, authorities said Wednesday. Narcissa Zuber, 48, of Cranford, N.J., was charged with attempted murder, aggravated arson and child endangerment charges. Zuber's attorney, William Lundsten, entered not guilty pleas to the charges on her behalf Wednesday and said he will move to have her $800,000 bail reduced, the Newark Star-Ledger reported. Zuber was driving on the Garden State Parkway Oct. 26 when motorists noticed her vehicle on fire. Woodbridge, N. J., police found the car pulled over, and the twin children, 7, in it with burn injuries, the Star-Ledger said. An investigation by the Union County District Attorney's Office, Troop E Criminal Investigation Unit and the state police Arson Unit determined Zuber deliberately set fire to the vehicle and drove about 2 miles before reaching the location where she stopped, prosecutor Grace Park said. The children were hospitalized and have been released. Zuber was charged last week when she was discharged from the hospital, Park said.
