UAE officials have been sent to Sri Lanka to probe the cause of death of an Emirati mother and child early this morning. Hamad Saeed Al Shamsi, Director of the Department of Operations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Ministry is coordinating with the UAE Embassy in Colombo about the death of the 22-year old woman and her year-old child. Mohammed Ali Obaid Al Mazrouei, the husband survived the effects of alleged food poisioning and is receiving treatment at a hospital in the Colombo. The family hailed from Ras Al Khaimah. Al Shamsi said that the condition of father is stable after receiving treatment at intensive care unit. According to online reports quoting Sri Lankan police, the mother and child died at a private hospital in Wattala early on Wednesday. The report said the family had arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday evening and had stayed at the hotel before falling sick. They were later admitted to hospital where the two succumbed to their illness.
