An Arab man is on trial in Dubai on charges of raping a 14-year-old Gulf school girl after blackmailing her with private photographs she had sent him on Facebook, thinking he is a girl. The prosecutor accused the 26-year-old man of using the girl’s young age to carry out his “satanic act and satisfy his sick whim,” demanding maximum punishment of the defendant. The criminal court, opening hearings on Sunday, was told the unnamed defendant had misled the girl into believing he was a girl, who wanted to be a friend of the victim on Facebook. After corresponding with each other, she believed him and sent photographs of her half-naked body. “Once he got the pictures, the man started blackmailing the girl…he threatened to publish the pictures on Facebook and give them to her parents,” Arabic daily Al Ittihad said. It quoted the unnamed girl as telling the court that he finally came to her house at 1.00am and forced her to open the window of her bedroom, where he raped her. “In the morning, the girl said she was still so traumatized that she drank acetone (nail remover) by mistake as it was next to the water bottle…while she was on her way to hospital she told her father that she was raped,” the paper said. It said the defendant claimed in court that he had consensual sex with the girl and that he has known her for two years.
