Internet professionals convened in Taipei on Wednesday for the sixth forum on cross-Strait IT development, discussing topics including Internet finance and mobile Internet.
Lu Wei, secretary-general of the Internet Society of China and co-organizer of the forum, and Jan Hung-tze, chairman of Taiwan's Internet and E-commerce Association, both highlighted the wealth of opportunities for cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
According to Jan, founder of PChome Online, Taiwan's Internet finance sector is held back by rigid policies, in contrast with the industry boom in the mainland.
As for mobile Internet, Taiwan has plenty of innovative young talent, despite much less investment, he said.
Companies such as Baidu and Alibaba sent representatives to the forum, to exchange views with Taiwan's major players including Chunghwa Telecom and PChome.
