Yemeni economic experts have called on the government to counter the country's trade imbalance. Yemen is currently importing more goods than it exports, and experts say the government needs to draft economic plans to develop Yemeni production, to diversify economic competition and not just rely on petroleum exports. A recent governmental study blamed the increasing importations of food, machines, equipments, and consumer goods for the current trade imbalance. It said weak exports and increasing imports led to a structural deficit, adding that limited non-oil exports had affected the overall growth of Yemeni exportations.
