Sonatrach and Gazprom and discussing the possibility of launching a partnership in the production and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG), according to the online Algerian press, which reports that the presidents of the two energy giants, Abdelhamid Zerguine (Sonatrach) and Alexei Miller (Gazprom) have opened talks during the 25th World Gas Congress, which is being held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The same sources say that Zerguine and Miller "have discussed the possibility of developing joint activities with a view to new oil and gas projects, including the production and export of LNG on the world energy market". Natural gas reserves in Algeria are estimated to be around 4.5 million cubic metres, putting the country in second place in Africa behind Nigeria. The country also has around 1.5 billion tonnes of oil reserves, a figure exceeded only by Nigeria and Libya. (ANSAmed).
